Living in La Laguna

San Cristóbal de La Laguna was laid out at the end of the fifteenth century on a grid that later served as a model for colonial towns in the Americas. Much of the centre is pedestrian, with colourful facades, wooden balconies, churches and inner courtyards, and the university keeps the streets lively.

La Laguna lies higher than the coast, so it is cooler and more often cloudy than the south. The tram runs to Santa Cruz and Tenerife North airport is close by. Homes range from apartments in the old town to houses on the edge of the city and in the coastal villages of Bajamar and Punta del Hidalgo.
